The AH-1Z Viper helicopter was born out of necessity. In the early 2000s, the US Marine Corps realized that their aging fleet of AH-1W SuperCobras needed to be replaced. They wanted a helicopter that was more versatile, more reliable, and more capable of carrying out a variety of missions.
